Introducing Me!

Hi! My name is Hannah Jacildo. I am a student at Brigham Young University-Idaho in the Marriage and Family Studies major. I am working toward becoming a Marriage and Family Therapist. Because of this, I am taking a class about Marriage and Family this semester. We were asked to start a blog to share our learning and ideas with others around us. Dating and the RAM

This week we discussed preparation for marriage and how the way that we date and see dating can affect the relationships we choose to stick with in the future. I want to mostly discuss a problem I see with dating in our society today. There is so much more “hanging out” than actual dating. A date should include the “3 P’s,” which are paired off, paid for, and planned. Many times, hanging out is not really like a date at all because there is no opportunity to get to know each other and it is usually with a group of people. This can be hazardous to future relationships because you end up kissing and cuddling and maybe eventually having sex with this person you do not really know. From this, emotional feelings and attachment begin to come about, and you end up in an exclusive relationship with someone you think you love, but you really only love the idea of them and the physical attachment you have gained. Gaining Understanding

                This week we talked about the effects divorce and remarriage can have on a family, the good and the bad. I want to talk a little bit about that first, but then I want to talk more about step families and what that can mean for the children, the new step parents, the ex-spouse, and anyone else it may involve.                 Divorce was an interesting topic for me because I have been lucky enough to not have very much experience with it. My parents have been married since the beginning of 1982, so that makes 36 years now. Neither of them were ever married previously, and now most of my older siblings have all been married between 3 and 12 years, and, again, only one marriage.
